ABC news 90 second interview!

I was interviewed by Alison Morrow for ABC action news about Lyme disease and my personal experiences with having the disease. They put a link to my fundraiser page on the ABC site too!

Here is the link to the article and you can watch the video here:

Do I feel improvement in general?
Yeah. Today I had moments of feeling decent and moments of feeling very sick and tired. This has been the usual so far, the up and down thing. Which is a great sign. That means my body is fighting, healing, and detoxing.

Thoughts:

Being interviewed by Alison Morrow from ABC action news was a lot of fun and very emotional and tiring at the same time. The interview went great. I was so happy that my brain was working and I was able to fluidly speak my thoughts.

Alison Morrow is such an awesome person as well. We have been talking over the phone and e-mail for a bit of time now and it was nice to finally meet her in person. She's really just so kind and she is very creative. She really knew how to interview and get important aspects of the story out there. So as an artist, I really appreciate creative and kind people. I'm just so happy and grateful that I was able to get this opportunity. I hope this helps with the fundraising.

If anyone is curious, I actually got this interview in a funny way. I started my donation page and was focusing on all these ways to get it circulating and raise money. I just had this random thought pop in my head to contact a professor I had a semester ago. So I e-mailed him about my fundraiser and he sent out an e-mail to all his contacts and that is when Alison Morrow sent him a message with her number and told me to call her. So from that day I kept calling and calling, I made sure to keep in contact with her every day. I kept sending her e-mails with new stuff I was doing and interesting information about my story. So from there she got in contact with Dr.Sponaugle and kept in contact with me. Eventually everything synced up and she came out to film an interview with me at the center!

The interview airs tonight between 5-6 pm. For anyone who wants to see the interview and isn't in this area, I will post up a link to it tomorrow!

I just took some marinol, going to eat some food, and rest up!

Day 23 at Sponaugle Wellness Institute

                                            Day 23- 8/28/13

Weight: 109
Height: 5'5

9 AM: Tesosterone cream

10 AM: Appointment with Dr. Crozier and nurse Amy

  • Doing more healing drips + detox this week and next week.
  • September 9th I start the kill protocol and will get my first bag of the kill drips!
  • My amino acids are still all very deficient
  • My CD-57 dropped down, which indicates that my body is bringing out the Lyme. So that's a good thing. Shows that my body is responding, pulling out the Lyme, and is getting prepared for kill mode.

10: 30 AM: Healing IV drip + detox drip

Picked up my prescriptions for Marinol and progesterone.

Marinol is a synthetic form of THC and is supposed to stimulate your appetite and help with nausea. I took it and it made me incredibly high haha. Helped my pain though and I am pretty hungry right now. I am about to find out how I feel after I eat.

Do I feel any improvement in general?
Yes. Today I felt actually pretty decent today. I actually went for a little walk around the block today. So that's a great sign. Still up and downs. One hour I feel this way, then I feel very sick, and then I'll start feeling better again. General trend though in a positive direction.

What I ate today:
Pear
Black rice
Papaya nectar

Thoughts:
ABC is filming me tomorrow while I go get my drips! So that will be fun.

I'm also excited that I will be starting the kill drips in about two weeks. That's when the fun begins haha. Once we start busting that biofilm and killing all the bacteria, that should make me feel a lot better after I'm done herxing and the toxins from the bacteria is detoxed out of my system.

I also just set up a little store and I am now selling this art book I made. It's a collection of my drawings I have found in my school notebooks throughout the years. All the proceeds go directly towards my medical costs!

You can check that out here: http://www.zibbet.com/CureSarah

My pain level is definitely better vs before treatment. My stomach felt a lot better today and I felt better mentally. Still very up and down, which to me shows big improvement since I never had that before.

What I ate today:
Pear
Split pea soup
Papaya nectar
rice milk

Thoughts:

A lot of cool stuff is happening. ABC is doing a story on me and they are filming this thursday.

I also have a donor wanting to donate 5 thousand dollars. We have raised 13,000 currently. An anonymous donor gave me a challenge grant of 5,000. So that means if everyone can raise 5k more by September 20th, then the anonymous donor will give a 5,000 dollars. So that would mean a total of 10,000 dollars and would bring the funds up to 23,000!

If anyone reading this would like to share my donation page or donate, then go to www.youcaring.com/curesarah.

My friend Michael brought me a few bags of healthy food today that he thinks I might be able to stomach. It was so nice!

Day 20 at Sponaugle Wellness Institute

                                                     Day 20- 823/13

9 AM: Testosterone cream. Can't stomach supplements this morning.

10 AM: Bandages changed at hospital

Noon : Colonics with Deborah at Wellness from Within

2 PM: Detox IV drip

11 PM: Applied second estrogen patch change Monday, along with the other estrogen patch.

Dropped off and picked up my prescriptions today. So I got my secondary estrogen patch which is a low dose, then got my primary estrogen patch refilled, and clonidine.

Clonidine is a blood pressure pill, but it can bring down the heart rate. I always have a higher heart rate and it may get higher when I start killing, so they gave me this to take as needed. If I do take it, I will need to monitor my blood pressure. My heart rate is normally in the high 80's-90's, sometimes its in the 100's .

Still very up and down feeling.

What I ate today:
Brown rice

Do I feel any improvement in general?
Same thing as I said yesterday

Thoughts:

I'm tired.

Getting my bandages changed today felt SOOOOOO good. It was starting to get highly irritating and itchy gah. Now it feels so much nicer after it was all cleaned. She used a different type of bandage too that should be less irritating than the last one used.

I drip so fast because of the midline though, its awesome.

After treatment I slept all day, so now I'm up :P.

Look at the midline without any bandages. Freaky looking, eh? I'm a cybooorg:

Fresh new bandages, aaah:

Day 19 at Sponaugle Wellness Institute

                                                           Day 19 -  8/23/13

Weight: 108
Height: 5'5

10 AM: Testosterone cream and I didn't take my supplements when I woke up because I vomited instead.

11: 30 AM: Detox Iv drip

2 PM: Appointment with Dr. Crozier and my nurse Amy
  • What is neat about the center is that the doctors here also have Lyme and co-infections too. So a lot of times, they do IV's on themselves too. Its also cool because they understand what it's like and you know they put considerable care into the IV bags if they are getting it themselves.
  • My hormones are still really low, so I was given another estrogen patch. It's a very tiny one, just to bump it up a bit. I also will now be taking my progesterone pill twice instead of once a day.
  • My hormones are so low that I'm actually in menopause right now.
  • Based on all the blood work, it appears I have a lot more Lyme and infectious disease problems than mold. But some mold is starting to come out and show its face. A lot of the mold is trapped in the biofilm right now, along with other toxins and diseases.
  • My neuroepinephrine and glutamate is very high. This is what causes that over-electrified/stimulated brain. My neurological symptoms have definitely been worse 0.o. This does happen with the Alpha Lipoic Acid because its pulling out the toxins from the brain. I also already had high levels anyway.
  • What scares me about these other treatment places and Lyme treatments is that they don't keep track of this brain chemistry like they do at Sponaugle's. So what happens a lot of the times and what I've been told by other people, is they see fellow patients start having seizures during treatment 0.o. This is because they aren't doing anything to keep the over-electricity down, which is released when you are killing bugs and busting biofilm.
They also changed the protocol a bit since I've been here, which is really cool. Its because they are always evolving and finding out better ways to heal us with these complex conditions. They use to do a week or two of detox and go into the kill drips. Now they are prolonging the detox time and doing a bunch of lipoic acid first. So they are more focused on detoxing, as well as protecting the brain and nervous system with the Alpha Lipoic acid IV drip. Their kill drips really do the job, so they are able to focus more on optimizing the brain and really cleaning you out so your body can do its job and raise the immune system as well.

Still feeling that flu, coughing, chest-cold virus thing. There IS something going around. So I caught that probably. Oh well. Hopefully by Monday it will have cleared up.

What I ate today:

Brown Rice
Soup with vegetables

Still having trouble eating. My stomach has been through a lot in the past (so much antibiotics) so I most likely have leaky gut syndrome. So this will take a while for it to really heal. The colonics have been helping though and I notice my reactions to food is a little less severe. So I'm just sticking to brown rice and soup because its really the only things that don't send me into a REALLY bad flare up, but of course I still get sick from it. At least its something though. I'm glad the detox bags are full of vitamins and amino acids though, or my poor cells would be totally starved by now. I am still losing weight though :/.

Do I feel any improvement in general?
I have been feeling very up and down. For a few hours or the first half of the day, I'll be feeling actually sort of decent. Then I'll just crash and feel terribly sick. Then it will go back up out of nowhere. To me this is pretty awesome because I never ever had that up and down. It was just either really, really cant get out of bed today sick, or really sick. That was as far as that went :P.

Thoughts:
Today was a very silly day. It was so up and down. I wake up, try to eat some soup, and just puke it all out. Then I started to feel better. My dad helped the staff hang up this big picture board on the wall, which made me laugh. Very dad-like thing to do, he will always help people fix things.

I hung out with Michael who I met at the center and it was awesome to finally hang out with someone and have a friend who understands hah. We played around with these cool Thoth tarot cards based on Crowley's teachings. He showed me how to do some healing energy work, its called qigong. When you're healing your physical body, its important to also heal the spiritual/energy body as well. It was very nice to hang out with someone spiritually like-minded.

I also carried around a big plate of brown rice all day at the center. Which I just found amusing and it looked pretty silly. It's just really the only thing that is somewhat okay on my system and I was just picking at it the whole day. The best part is that Mary went to publix, found this frozen microwavable brown rice and cooked it in the microwave at the center. So that was also funny and very kind of her.

It was a strange little day. Lots of ups and downs.

Daily assessment:

Haha!

I just carried this around from one room to the other and to the doctors office haha:

Day 18 at Sponaugle Wellness Institute

                                                      Day 18- 8/21/13

Weight: 112
Height: 5'5

9 AM: Morning supplements + testosterone

10 AM: Colonic with Deborah at Wellness from Within

11: 30 AM: Detox IV drip

  •  I was supposed to get the healing drips + detox bags today, but I am feeling very sick. So they just gave me a detox bag to make me feel better.

2 PM: Blood work at labcorp

I feel like I have a flu and some awful chest cold and a worsening of my other symptoms. There is a virus going around, so I may have caught that + the lipoic acid could be making me neurological symptoms worse. It's hard to tell at this point. Because of how I'm feeling they held off on the lipoic acid and just gave me a detox bag.

What I ate today:
Sandwich- just turkey and bread
Brown rice

Do I feel any improvement in general?
Well today I feel very bad. Still a general trend of getting better, but it's still up and down. Plus I think I caught something extra.

Thoughts:

I didn't do the video today with Phillip Johnson because I'm feeling terrible, so maybe tomorrow. I just feel all types of sick.

When I was in labcorp getting my bloodwork done, there was a propane leak from a truck in the parking lot. So all these firetrucks came over and cleaned up the mess. They cleaned it up so fast and by the time I came out it was gone. So that was interesting.

It's funny how up and down my condition is. Yesterday, I felt decent first half of the day and then the second half of the day I just felt soo bad.

They took my bloooood:

Height: 5'5

10 AM: Morning supplements + testosterone cream

11: 30 AM: 2 bags. Healing drip + detox drip

Had some decent sleep last night. Still did not get enough, but more than my usual 2-4 hours of sleep.

When I breathe in, I get this funny feeling in my chest, my throat is sore, my voice is raspy, and I'm starting to get a kind of weird cough. It's mild right now and hopefully it goes away. I'm not really sure what it is.

Do I feel any improvement in general?
Yes I am still feeling improved. It's up and down, but overall yes. Today I was feeling really decent actually. But now I am feeling so tired and very sick. Last night that weird chest/throat thing I just mentioned above started happening. I feel like I have a fever, flu-like, my throat ah. I just feel bad now. But earlier I was definitely feeling decent and more energy.

What I ate today:
Pear
Grilled cheese

Still very difficult to eat things. But when I eat certain foods like brown rice, I don't get AS sick. So that is an improvement, even if its small.

Thoughts:

I'm supposed to be doing a progress/patient video with Phillip Johnson tomorrow. So that's cool.

I talked to some lovely people today in the drip room. I had some very intriguing conversation with a new friend, Michael, about extraterrestrials and a bunch of other cool topics.

Now I am feeling quite sick and tired. The lipoic acid could be making me feel crappy or just the lack of sleep. We will see in the morning. At least I feel so crappy and tired that I should actually get sleep tonight. Woo.

I was doodling while waiting for my bags, I should finish it:

Wrap your arm with press n seal when you shower if you have a picc or midline!:

Day 15 at Sponaugle Wellness Institute

                                                     Day 15- 8/16/13

Weight: 113
Height: 5'5

8 AM: Woke up and took my supplements and testosterone cream
10 AM: Got a mid-line placed by Daryl in hospital

  • It was so easy and fast. I felt a bee sting from the needle (this numbs your arm) and then a little burning. Then 20 seconds later, it was already in! It was so fast.
  • Sponaugle Institute always sends patients to Daryl for picc and midlines and I see why. He's really skilled and also hilarious. We kept joking back and forth.
  • I have a scar on my left arm from a failed picc line attempt 4 years ago. So he checked it out to see what was going on in there and he said the veins were looking murky and so tiny. He described it like bb's. He also said that I shouldn't get blood drawn from that arm. He said my all my veins are small and I was just born this way hah.
  • We got some food at the cafe in the hospital. The food was really good, normally hospital food is well..hospital food. It was just an enjoyable experience all around.
  • I have to go once a week to the hospital to get my bandages changed.
Noon: 2 bags- Healing drip + Detox IV drip
  • I'm tolerating the healing drip well and that's a very good thing because its pulling toxins out of the fatty tissues. This should prevent me from getting MS or parkinsons or any type of nerve damage.
  • Also should help my brain convert chemicals correctly, since it's not doing that right now hah.

Barely got any sleep again last night. About..2-3 hours of sleep.

What I ate today:
Granola bar
Cod with tomatoes

I'm tolerating food a little better. It still makes me sick to eat and I'm having difficulties, but its definitely slightly better. I'm pretty sure this is because of the colonics.

Do I feel any improvement in general?
I feel about the same. Better than before treatment. Though not sleeping really takes a toll on my system. So in some ways I feel the same, but in other ways I'm feeling more agitated, sick, and tired because of the lack of sleep.

Thoughts:

A much, much better day today. Everything went smoothly, my symptoms aren't raging with vengeance. I'm exhausted and wish I got more sleep, but..eh..what can you do.

I'm so glad to have the midline now. I go into the IV room, get my vitals taken and then go right to the drip room and wait to get my bags hooked up. Then when I leave, they just unhook me and flush the line. It's great. Much better than all the needles. Plus my veins are just so small and angry haha. So I'm really glad we did this now because I'm sure soon enough, we would of had major problems. It's a little sore right now, but should go away in a day or two.

At the hospital, waiting:

Do I feel any improvement in general?
I feel better than yesterday because I actually got some sleep, plus the detox bag yesterday helps. Today I got the healing drip + detox bag, so I may feel a little worse again from the healing drip. We will see. So today was a better day.

Thoughts:

I wish people (friends) would understand what my situation is right now. I'm sick and I'm in intensive treatment. So basically my day to day life is can't really eat > go to treatment > come home and collapse on bed > watch a movie, until i fall asleep. That's it, right there. That's how tired, sick, and exhausted I am. I'm also slightly disappointed in some of my friends. There has been a distinct pattern in my life. Really sick= friends disappear. I've talked to other people with medical problems and have had the same things happen to them. Now what is important to me, is getting better. It's just very interesting. You get such a different perspective of people and life when you go through such an intense, debilitating disease for such a long time.

Well I'm getting the picc line tomorrow, 10 AM at the hospital, so that is on my mind. I talked to other people who have one and they said its really quick and painless. They are good here. When I got a picc line 4 years ago, they put you completely under with anesthesia, like a surgery. Then my veins were too small, so they couldn't even do it. I had to go back 2 days later to get a hickman implanted in my chest and then that fell out about..3-4 months in, and then I got a medi-port. Each one required being put under. So I'm glad to see they have improved their technology :P. Now they just numb your arm and do it quick with ultrasound I think?

I had some really good conversation with a fellow patient Aaron about art and life. How you look back on your life and realize how the illness impacted decisions in your life without you even realizing it. It's nice to find people to relate to and take your mind off of everything when you're getting the drips.

I also spoke to two people and its their last week here. They both feel major improvement and they look good. One guy lost 30 pounds. It's very uplifting to see people healing and improving.

I left my phone at the center! I couldn't believe that. Silly spacey neuro-Lyme brain. Mary was really nice and drove me all the way back to go get it hah.

Day 13 at Sponaugle Wellness Institute

Pain level (1-10): 6

               - I also had to get stuck three times and my veins were just being difficult.

NOON: Appointment with Dr. Crozier + my nurse Amy. They went over some of my new test results with me. My latest ones are still pending, they do weekly testing. Dr. Crozier set me up to get a PICC line at the hospital tomorrow.

  •   My Norepinephrine levels are very high. That is part of the reason why I'm so wired and over-electrified. But at the same time very exhausted all the time.
  • We discussed how I'm having a hard time tolerating my supplements because of my

Do I feel any improvement in general?
Overall I do still feel a trend of general improvement, but today my symptoms were a lot worse because I got no sleep. I have a very hard time sleeping because of my over-electrified brain + pain.

Thoughts:
Today was another exhausting, unhappy day because of my symptoms and not sleeping. I am relieved about the PICC line that I'll be getting Friday. It will make this whole process a lot easier, but it won't be fun having this catheter  implanted in my arm for a while.
